 Your Individualized Birth Experience

                                         What is a Doula???

A Doula is a woman who is trained to assist another woman through her pregnancy and childbirth. A doula may provide support to the family after the baby is born as well. The term originated from the ancient Greeks and means, "a woman who serves." Birth doulas provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during, and just after birth. Postpartum doulas provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

Studies have shown that women who have a doula present at their birth have shorter labors with fewer complications. They also have healthier babies, and are more likely to breastfeed without as much as difficulty.

Pregnancy differs from woman to woman, and even baby to baby. Some women have extreme morning sickness from the very beginning, and others don't experience a single queasy moment through the entire duration of their pregnancy. Labor can be just an unpredictable. Whether you're planning a natural unassisted home birth, or you know going into your pregnancy that you want to have a Cesarean, you deserve to be supported unconditionally in your decisions. It is amazing, exciting, and empowering to bring life into this world. Knowing that you have someone who will stay by your side and support your decisions through your pregnancy, delivery, and even through your postpartum journey is very comforting!

I have the world's most rewarding job! I'm a Doula.
