Letter of Agreement for Postpartum Support Services, Limits and Fees






Postpartum Doula Support Services Contract For the Doula:

My Role:

  • I will respect you, your family, your home and your parenting styles.
  • I will not make decisions for you or speak for you though I may assist you with information and/or gently remind you of your decisions previously discussed.
  • I will provide non-medical physical, emotional and informational support after the birth of your baby.
  • I will NOT perform clinical tasks, medical assessments or evaluations nor do I provide medical advice or diagnoses for mother or baby.
  • My support services do not replace care from a medical provider.
  • I will help with self-care recovery, postpartum comfort measures, infant care, parenting information, and provides assistance with learning to feed and care for baby.
  • Support could include preparing simple meals and snacks, assisting with light household tasks, and other forms of support as appropriate and necessary.
  • I do NOT perform major housecleaning tasks (ex: washing windows or yard work).
  • I am able to provide transportation for momma, baby or family.
  • If I am unable to provide any postpartum support due to unpredictable scheduling conflicts (such as one of my birth doula clients going into labor), I agree to either find a replacement doula, postpone services, or refund the deposit.
  • In the event of illness, emergency or severe weather, every effort will be made to reschedule services as soon as I am aware that I cannot keep our appointment. Payment for that day will be applied to future service if already paid.

Client’s Role:

  • I will communicate my needs to the doula as her duties will depend on my priorities and particular needs that day.
  • If I am unable to keep my appointment with the doula, I agree to give the doula at least 24 hours notice. If I do not, my deposit will NOT be returned to me or applied to fees.
  • In the event of illness, emergency or severe weather, every effort will be made to reschedule services as soon as I am aware that I cannot keep our appointment. Payment for that day will be applied to future service if already paid.

Fees, Policy, Deposits, Payments, Refunds:
I require a deposit of $275 due upon contract signing to hold your spot on my calendar. My fee for Postpartum Doula Support is $25 per hour and is due at the end of each shift ($22 per hour if client receives at least 25 hours a week in services, and $20 for clients who have contracted birth services). I require a 3 hour daily minimum. Your deposit will be applied to your final balance unless your payment does not clear, you cancel within 24 hours of our scheduled appointment or you are not home at the day/time of our appointment. I accept cash/check, Paypal, AK USA, or barter.

Service Details:

  • One free 2 hour consultation to discuss your needs, proposed schedule and to ensure compatibility.
  • Prenatal visit at your home (baby care, sibling preparation, child proofing, relaxation)
  • Continuous physical and emotional support (listening to your birth story, your fears/frustrations/concerns, observing your postpartum recovery, etc.)
  • Baby care education and support (assist in bathing, feeding, comforting baby, cutting baby's nails, organizing the nursery/your home, etc.)
  • Breastfeeding or supplemental support
  • Preparing simple, nutritious meals
  • Maintaining simple housework (laundry, vacuuming, emptying garbage, straightening up the house, dust, dishes, etc.)
  • Watching the baby and/or older children so Mom/Dad/Partner can rest
  • Lending library of reading materials
  • Referrals to other professionals as needed
  • Unlimited telephone, text, and email contact
This agreement is meant to be fair to both parties, so that all parties may feel secure in their mutual commitment. By signing this contract, you agree to pay for services on the days agreed upon. In return, the doula commits to provide these services and not to accept additional clients, which would interfere with her ability to perform the scheduled services. It is understood that the doula is not to be held responsible or liable for any undesirable or unexpected outcome resulting from postpartum support. Should a disagreement occur, the undersigned agree to resolve issues amicably. The signatures below indicate both doula and client understand the content and terms herein.
